My cat has been bulimic for 5 years now and just recently lost his voice, are they related?

My cat is 9 years old and has thrown up at least once every other day for the last 5 years. We thought it was because he eats too fast and doesn't chew his food. Two days ago he tried to meow at me and it was very scratchy. I can try giving him Senior food, sensitive tummy food or Pepcid but I don't have money for the vet. He shows no other signs of sickness. no running eyes or nose and no bumps in the throat. I just see him do the swallowing motion alot. Thanks for your help
