What does Ibuprofen 600 mg tablets good for?

Ive been sick for 3 days with a scratchy throat and HORRIBLE runny nose. I went to the doctor yesterday and he superscribed me with Ibuprofen 600 mg for every 8 hours I've took it 3 times and haven't felt any better! I was wondering if this will help my runny nose because that's all that is REALLY REALLY bothering me! Please help!!
