What is the deal with my throat/vocal chords?

everytime i try to sing or talk louder, it gets real scratchy. my throat constantly hurts. i love singing and forget to warm up sometimes before i just jut unto singing. do yuot hni kive messed my vocal chords up and should get them checked..i am objected to second hand smoke. occasionally drink alcohol(1 sip every few weeks) and i drink diet cokes like constantly.
