What is a very good and efficient foot pedal for guitar?

I recently purchased a Ibanez Ds7 foot pedal, and don't get me wrong, it sounds better than my amps distortion but it's really not what i anticipated. I wanted a pedal that was real good for metal, and the ds7 is just to noisy and scratchy. What would be a great, not good, not decent, A GREAT pedal for distortion? I like to play Pantera, Avenged Sevenfold, Lamb of God, alot heavy and thrash metal. Can someone point me in the right direction here?
